同樣亞馬遜 今昔兩樣流向

發現亞瑪遜舊流域的Russell Mapes一份25日公布的新研究發現,世界最大的亞馬遜河,過去曾自大西洋流往太平洋,與當今縱跨南美洲的流向截然不同。此份研究乃根據過去河床上的古老沈積物,以及在礦物中發現名為鋯石(zircon)的微晶體。

A Tale of Two Amazons
PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania, October 25, 2006 (ENS)
The world’s largest river, the Amazon, once flowed from the Atlantic to Pacific, the opposite of its current direction across South America, finds new research released today. The new study is based on the evidence left behind in the rivers ancient sediments and in the form of tiny crystals of a mineral called zircon.
