各地警訊 － 這個月有許多關於2000年世界地球日的活動舉行，看看歐、亞、非、北美、拉丁美洲、澳洲與大洋洲在這個月內舉辦了什麼活動。

　　非洲：在廣闊的非洲大陸有49個國家超過650個團體舉行數千個和地球日有關的活動，預計有上千萬名民眾會參加。以「立刻淨化能源」為訴求的活動很多，包括布吉納法索和迦納的再生性能源博覽會、模里西斯全國性的全球溫暖化宣傳運動、以及南非和奈及利亞宣傳儘快改用乾淨能源的活動。這次遍及非洲的世界地球日慶祝活動以社區為核心，而以保存、回復、以及尊重美好的非洲環境作為目標。

　　亞洲：亞洲擁有世界半數人口以及地球上部份最重要的天然資源。這次的世界地球日活動有許多的亞洲人參加，僅僅中國大陸就有約一億人參與活動。東亞地區的活動包括: 在菲律賓、印尼、泰國等國所舉辦和平而具有拯救意義的儀式，越南和馬來西亞的全國淨化運動，印尼、南韓、日本、印度及尼泊爾等國的空氣淨化活動。而南亞方面，則包括對印度戈亞地區貧窮兒童進行的教育計畫、斯里蘭卡漁民大遊行、阿富汗喀布爾以太陽能炊煮的活動。

　　歐洲：學校、人民團體、政府正共同合作，在整個大歐洲地區推行地球日活動，範圍涵蓋俄羅斯、獨立國協(NIS)、以及土耳其。四十二個國家超過一千個團體在籌畫生態博覽會、遊行以及研討會，研討會的議題包括野生動物保育、能源的有效利用及反核等等；除了數百個社區及學生活動之外，同時也有許多引人注目的跨國計畫，以及在倫敦、華沙、札格雷布、巴塞隆納、布達佩斯、索菲亞、羅馬等城市舉辦宣傳「立刻淨化能源」的大型活動。

　　拉丁美洲：在四月15、16日有上百萬的民眾參與在墨西哥市、布宜諾斯艾利斯、卡拉卡斯、聖地牙哥所舉行的地球日活動。下星期將有更多的活動，小如生態團體的集會和原住民的日出儀式，到市民的遊行與替代能源博覽會。幾乎所有的加勒比海小島及中南美洲的國家都有慶祝活動。在拉丁美洲的活動多以是環保教育、都市污染及生物多樣性為主題，而加勒比海的小島則將重點放在海岸線衛生及海洋生物。

　　中東：整個中東地區的政府有關當局以及日益茁壯的非政府組織 (NGO) 運動成員都藉舉行世界地球日的活動，來對社區進行教育，並保持緊密聯繫。活動則包括大眾宣導、自然步道音樂會、植樹等；約旦與以色列交接的阿拉瓦邊境走廊 (Arava Border Crossing) 兩岸則在舉行海灘淨化活動以及環境教育；在台拉維夫有數千人參加音樂會；沙烏地阿拉伯及約旦有一連串的競賽活動以鼓勵年輕人尋找環境問題的解決方法。

　　澳洲與大洋洲：在太平洋上有許多不同的慶祝方式。在帛琉、薩摩亞、庫克島、吉里巴斯、斐濟、巴布亞紐幾內亞、所羅門群島、東加裡，都有淨化環境、種植原產植物及紅樹林、嘉年華會等活動的舉行。澳洲的雪梨當天將禁止車輛行駛，並開放天空舉行表演；墨爾本有反核遊行；伯斯則舉辦有鹽纇博覽會。紐西蘭方面有數千民民眾參與環境淨化、種植本土植物的活動，以及有關世界地球日的演講活動。

All this month, events are being held around the world for Earth Day 2000. A few highlights are listed below.

AFRICA: More than 650 groups are organizing several thousand Earth Day events in 49 countries in the vast continent of Africa. Tens of millions of people are expected to participate. Clean Energy Now! Events are numerous, ranging from renewable energy fairs in Burkina Faso and Ghana, to a country-wide global warming campaign in Mauritius, and campaigns to demand a rapid transition to clean energy in South Africa and Nigeria. Community events are the core of Earth Day celebrations throughout Africa, and will be held to preserve, restore and honor the dearly loved African environment.

ASIA: Containing half the world's population and some of the planet's most critical natural resources, the people of Asia are coming together in huge numbers for Earth Day 2000. In China alone, events and campaigns will reach hundreds of millions of people. Asia events include peace and healing ceremonies across the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand, national clean-ups in Vietnam and Malaysia, and clean air events in Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, India and Nepal. In South Asia, events include an education project for poor children in Goa, India, a rally with fisher folk in Sri Lanka, and a solar cooker program in Kabul, Afghanistan.

EUROPE: Schools, citizen groups, and governments are collaborating to make Earth Day 2000 a huge movement across the greater European region, including Russia, the NIS, and Turkey. More than 1000 groups in 42 countries are organizing eco-fairs, rallies, and conferences on issues ranging from wildlife protection to energy efficiency and opposition to nuclear power. In addition to the hundreds of community-based events and student activities, there are also many remarkable trans border projects and Clean Energy Now! festivals for thousands of people in cities like London, Warsaw, Zagreb, Barcelona, Budapest, Sofia, and Rome. LATIN AMERICA: Millions of people participated in major Earth Day events held in Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Caracas, and Santiago on 15 and 16 April. Many more events will take place in the next week, from small eco-club meetings and sunrise indigenous rituals, to city-wide civil demonstrations and major alternative energy exhibitions. Earth Day events are being held on almost all islands of the Caribbean, and in virtually all Central and South American nations. Many Earth Day events in Latin America are on the themes of environmental education, urban pollution, and biodiversity, with Caribbean events focusing on the health of shorelines and marine life.

MIDDLE EAST: Across the Middle East, government authorities and members of the growing NGO movement are holding Earth Day events to educate and connect their communities. Activities range from seminars to public education campaigns, concerts to nature walks, and tree plantings to clean-ups. Friends of the Earth-Middle East is holding beach clean-ups and environmental education events on both the Jordanian and Israeli sides of the Arava Border Crossing. A huge concert in Tel Aviv will involve thousands of people, and large competitions across Saudi Arabia and Jordan are encouraging youth to find environmental solutions.

PACIFIC: Across the vast Pacific, many diverse Earth Day events are being held. Pacific events include clean-ups, native tree and mangrove plantings, and community festivals, and will be held in Palau and Samoa (where the Prime Minister is involved), Cook Islands, Kiribati, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Tonga. In Australia, there will be a car free day and open air festival in　Sydney, an indigenous/anti-nuclear rally in Melbourne, and a salinity expo in Perth. In New Zealand, thousands of people are participating in clean ups, native tree plantings, Earth Day lectures and more, right across the country.
