美國參議院通過了1090億美元的緊急預算，以支付伊拉克的戰事費用及墨西哥灣地區颶風災害的重建金。這項預算案金額遠大於美國總統布希所提出的140億美元，白宮方面表示將否決這項預算案，未來將造成該案的停滯。
Senate Defies Bush, Approves $109 Billion in War Spending, Hurricane Relief
The U.S. Senate has approved a $109 billion emergency spending bill to pay for the war in Iraq and for reconstruction of the hurricane-battered Gulf Coast, but the future of the legislation is very much up in the air. The measure is $14 billion more than the amount requested by President George W. Bush and the White House today reiterated its pledge to veto the bill.
