根據蘇格蘭與美國研究人員的報告顯示，某些瓶鼻海豚的哨叫聲似乎是用來呼喚特定的名字，即使呼喊者的聲音特徵以電子技術移除，其他海豚仍然能夠辨別。科學家並發現，瓶鼻海豚跟人類嬰兒一樣，終其一生發展並使用其獨特的哨叫聲。
Dolphins Name Themselves with Signature Whistles
Some bottlenose dolphin whistles appear to communicate the caller's individual "name" information, which other dolphins can recognize even when the caller's voice features are electronically removed, Scottish and U.S. researchers report. As infants, bottlenose dolphins develop their own signature whistles to use throughout their lifetimes, the scientists have found.
