Delays Hinder Everglades Restoration, Costs Rising
"Troubling delays" plague the 30-year plan to restore Florida's Everglades and the cost of the massive effort continues to increase, the National Research Council said Monday. The new report finds the price tag for the plan is nearing $11 billion - some $2.5 billion more than Congress authorized - and casts further doubt on the federal government's commitment to the world's largest ecosystem restoration effort.
