澳洲政府已對澳洲東南部的獨特海域生態環境採取相關的保護行動，此海域的面積相當於維多利亞州，為13個新海洋保護區的其中之一。但澳洲政府卻也允許採掘業者可在此新保育區超過一半以上的範圍內，進行採掘活動。
Australia Allows Industry in New Marine Protected Areas
The Australian government has acted to preserve the unique environment of Australia's south-eastern waters, with an area almost as big as the state of Victoria included in 13 new Marine Protected Areas. But extractive industrial activities will be allowed in more than half of the newly designated area.
