長久來監督「北美自由貿易協定」（NAFTA）的環境署13日表示，美國政府未確實履行聯邦淨水法案，嚴格規範將汞排放至空氣及水中之火力發電廠，有違法之虞，並將針對此案進行偵查。美國方面則嚴正否認觸法。
NAFTA Secretariat Deems U.S. Mercury Emissions Worth Investigating
The environmental agency that polices the North American Free Trade Agreement Tuesday said that it intends to investigate the United States government for failing to enforce the federal Clean Water Act against coal-fired power plants with respect to mercury discharges to air and water. The United States denies violating the law.
