Man of Arms
The man of arms, a low ranked officer, bears spears and sticks.
The high ranked ministers, hundreds strong, wear noble uniforms.
The pelicans perched on the bridge rail, do not wet their wings.
Those ministers – unworthy of their attire.
The pelicans, perched on the bridge rail, do not wet their beaks.
Those useless ministers – an embarrassment to their ranks.
Fog is rising; a rainbow hangs over the south hill.
The man of arms’ young daughter – so gentle, so tender – starves.
