Congo Creates New Wildlife Protection Areas
The Republic of Congo announced plans Monday to create two protected areas to safeguard more than 3,800 square miles of sand dunes, wooded savannas and forests. Conservationists hailed the decision as an extraordinary achievement and said the combined areas will protect important habitat for a wide range of species, including elephants, hippos, chimpanzees and gorillas.
