EU Alters GMO Assessments to Satisfy Resistant Member States
Today the European Commission approved measures intended to improve the scientific consistency and transparency for decisions on allowing European market access to genetically modified food and animal feeds. Over the past five years, the European Union has put in place a system to regulate the marketing and production of genetically modified food, feed and crops. But the marketing of genetically modified foods and feed is strongly resisted by many European Union member states.
