非洲面積最大的溼地目前已受到拉姆薩公約(Ramsar Convention)的保護，此一政府間合作的條約，為溼地的保育提供國家及國際合作的平台。在聯合國的聯合監督下，蘇丹南部的蘇德區已於10月31日正式批准為國際級重要溼地保護區。
Southern Sudan's Vast Wetlands Conserved Under UN Treaty
Africa's largest wetland is now covered under the Ramsar Convention, an intergovernmental treaty providing for national action and international cooperation for wetlands conservation. The Sudd region in southern Sudan was formally certified as a wetland of international importance Tuesday at an event co-sponsored by the United Nations.
