New Soot Rule Upsets Health Experts and Industry Groups
The Bush administration approved new federal standards for particulate matter on Thursday, touting the rules as the "strongest national air quality standards in the country's history." Public health experts criticized the revised rules as too weak and said the administration's decision fails to adequately address a pollutant that causes serious heart and respiratory ailments and is responsible for thousands of premature deaths each year.
